Face-to-Face Music Lessons

Learn one-on-one with an experienced teacher at our Rouse Hill music studio.

Private Face-to-Face lessons allow us to tailor each lesson to the student’s age, ability, musical interests and goals.

Our Face-to-Face services include:

There’s a reason musical instruments have traditionally been taught with a teacher: personal feedback works.

Our face-to-face music lessons in Rouse Hill give students immediate guidance while they learn, helping them correct mistakes early, develop good playing habits and build confidence on their instrument.

At Little Musos, we provide structured music lessons for children, teens and adults across a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, singing, bass, violin and more.

All Little Musos teachers hold current Working With Children Checks and are committed to providing a professional, supportive and safe learning environment for students and their families.

Our teachers are experienced and trained in the Little Musos teaching approach. Lessons are tailored to the individual student, with clear goals designed to develop music reading, technique, musicianship and performance skills.

At the end of each lesson, students are given clear home-practice tasks and access to our Play-Along Videos, online games, worksheets and downloadable learning resources.

Face-to-face lessons are held at our Little Musos music studio in Rouse Hill, Sydney.

How Are Our Face-to-Face Music Lessons Structured?

Little Musos lessons are built around three core areas:

Sight-Reading, Technique and Songs.

The amount of lesson time dedicated to each area changes as students progress through the Little Musos syllabus and become more independent musicians.

1. Sight-Reading

Strong music-reading skills give students the foundation they need to continue developing on their instrument.

Students learn notation, rhythm, counting, musical terminology and symbols through structured exercises and specially written pieces from our Little Musos exercise books.

We approach reading music much like learning a new language. Regular repetition and reinforcement help students recognise musical information more quickly and gradually become confident, independent readers.

Rather than simply teaching students where to place their fingers, our aim is to help them understand what they are playing and why.

2. Technique

Good technique begins with the small details.

Our teachers closely monitor posture, hand position, movement and how students physically interact with their instrument. Something as simple as how a guitarist holds a pick or how a drummer holds a drumstick can significantly influence control, accuracy and long-term development.

Students are introduced to targeted exercises that develop:

  • speed
  • accuracy
  • coordination
  • control
  • strength
  • consistent playing technique

These exercises are introduced gradually and reinforced through regular home practice, helping students build strong habits from the beginning.

3. Songs

Playing music should be enjoyable, which is why songs become part of the Little Musos program from an early stage.

Beginners start with specially composed pieces from the Little Musos exercise books, allowing them to apply new reading and technical skills in a musical context.

As students progress, we encourage them to choose songs they genuinely enjoy.

Our teachers break each song into manageable sections and connect the music back to the skills being developed during lessons. Students begin to recognise rhythms, chords, scales, techniques and musical patterns rather than simply memorising a song note for note.

This approach helps students learn songs more efficiently while developing skills they can apply to future music.

Little Musos Grading & Testing

Little Musos uses a colour-based grading system inspired by martial arts programs.

Students work through competency levels and receive a physical coloured Little Musos pick as they progress through the syllabus.

Gradings generally take place after a student completes a chapter in their workbook, with each book containing two chapters.

The Little Musos colour grades are:

White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Brown and Black.

Each level represents another stage in the student’s musical development.

After achieving their Black Pick, students begin progressing into more advanced musicianship, playing techniques and improvisation.

The grading system gives younger students clear goals to work towards while allowing teachers and parents to see how their skills are developing.

Home Practice & Online Learning Resources

Music lessons are only one part of a student’s development. Regular practice between lessons helps reinforce new skills and builds confidence.

Every Little Musos student receives access to our online learning resources, including:

  • Play-Along Videos
  • Kahoot! music games
  • downloadable worksheets
  • technique exercises
  • song-learning resources
  • additional explanations and practice activities

Teachers use these resources to support and reinforce what has been covered during the student’s lesson.

Weekly home-practice tasks can also be assigned and tracked, giving students a clear understanding of what they should work on before their next lesson.

Face-to-Face Music Lessons in Rouse Hill

Little Musos provides face-to-face music lessons from our Rouse Hill music studio in Sydney’s Hills District.

Our goal is not simply to teach students how to play individual songs. We aim to develop confident, independent musicians with strong foundations in music reading, rhythm, technique, musicianship and performance.

Whether a student is learning their first notes or progressing into advanced techniques and improvisation, each lesson is designed to build skills that can continue developing for years to come.
